AN ESSAY...

Controlling stress...

Society becomes ever more and more demanding to us. Our body's response to that demand is known as stress, which can be positive, if we learn to manage it properly. The problem is when we do not control stress properly it becomes a mortal enemy. In fact, stress has been considered as the worst disease of modern times.

As a result of bad management of stress, our body can suffer physical changes. These physical changes are, for example, increase in heart rate and blood pressure; fall of the immune system; muscle tension; acne, and many more. Our mind is also a victim of these changes due to stress, we can suffer sudden changes in mood; poor concentration; anxiety; sadness; irritability; loss or increased of the appetite, and depression.

So, we need to learn how to manage stress properly and this will happen especially, keeping a positive attitude toward life, but also by exercising; practicing relaxation and meditation techniques; making a balance between work and fun; having healthy hobbies and, most importantly, being aware of our reality as human beings, not to look beyond our reached goals.

Only then we will face one of the worst sicknesses of the modern era that becomes a silent enemy that paralyzes us and prevents us from being happy, even when we are struggling to achieve happiness.

AN ESSAY...

The concept of fitness...

People have practiced sports since ancient times; however, in recent years, the concept of fitness has appeared. The concept of fitness blends the benefits of sports to our health with purely esthetic aspects.

Exercise has always been synonymous of good health. Ancient societies like the Greeks and the Romans, considered that sports were a gift of the gods to the human kind, and their governments promote the practice of exercise. Whoever practices sports was considered in an upper position, close to perfection. Later on, close to the Middle Ages, sports were more related to medicine, and started to be recommended by primitive doctors and human scientists like the Italian Leonardo Davinci. Not in vain, because they realize that people started to feel much better after exercise. More recently, medics and psychologists notice that sports also help to control one of the modern illnesses: the stress. In fact, now days, everybody knows that sport is the best way to stress control.

But exercise has another objective in human life, and it was something that even the Romans and Greeks knew: it improves our physical appearance. Miguel Angelo, the great artist of Middle Age noticed that when he sculpted his famous David, a perfectly built young man, representing the famous king of Israel.

So, based on the idea that exercise improves our physical appearance, people started to make changes in their way of living after practicing sports: they started to take care of diet, just as an example.

As a result of the combination of both ideas, in recent years, a new concept has risen about practicing sports: the concept of fitness that combines the goodness of exercising for our health with the results to our physical appearance. Fitness nowadays is not just an idea, it is a way of life. Gyms are not just for bodybuilders but also for all those who want to enlarge their lives and to improve their quality of living.

In conclusion, sports have evolved and now include not only those who have some aptitude to them, but also those who have the attitude to practice them and want to improve their health and, a the same time, to look better.

In short, there are three Africas instead of just the one that is shown in movies.

AN INTRODUCTORY, A BODY AND A CONCLUDING PARAGRAPH

-PRACTICE IN CLASS-

WRITING AN ESSAY

(INTRODUCTORY, BODY AND CONCLUDING)

1. Introductory paragraph

In order to take better care of our health, smoking is something forbidden in many places, however, on the other hand we can find those who like smoking. Laws around the world give us the right to stay in different places where people can’t smoke, but smokers have the right to smoke too.

2. Body paragraphs

Finally, smoking in open areas like parks or railway stations should not be forbidden. These are public and open places where smokers don’t affect others directly there, they will find the opportunity to smoke freely, and with this, they can do something that is a right too. So all in all those places should remain accessible for smokers.

3. Concluding paragraphs

In conclusion, although laws give us the possibility to be in places where smoking is something forbidden (and this is something in order to take care of our health) on the other hand we can find the smokers who have rights too, and so, they deserve places where they can smoke freely.

AN INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH

The concept of fitness

People have practiced sports since ancient times. The Greeks inherited to our society the concept of Olympic Games. Exercise has always been synonymous of good health. So it has always been recommended by doctors. However, many people also practice sports in order to improve their physical appearance. Joining the two concepts, in recent years has appeared the concept of fitness, which blends the benefits of sports to our health with purely esthetic aspects.

A PARAGRAPH ON GLOBAL WARMING

Global Warning (group work)

Global Warning is affecting our World in several ways. First of all by causing a rise of the sea levels. This will change the amount and pattern of precipitations, that can also cause the increase in the intensity of extreme weather, for example, bigger and stronger hurricanes, tornados, storms and landslides. This can also cause species extinction and changes in agricultural yields. These are few examples about how global warning is affecting the environment.

First of all, by causing an increase of the overall temperature on Earth. An expected increase of temperature will lead to the melting of the polar rice caps, which in return will lead to a rise of the sea levels. Sea levels are expected to rise at least 25 meters by the year 2100. The rise in sea levels would lead to the complete disappearance of islands and several flooding  along coast lines all over the world. Further more, it is very possible that global warning will result in climate changes. However, at this point, scientists are unable to predict the effect of global warning on earth’s weather. This is in short how global warning will affect the World we live in.

ESSAY ON HUMAN RIGHTS IN COSTA RICA

HUMAN RIGHTS IN COSTA RICA
(individual work)

Everybody has heard about human rights, many people around the world know about democracy in Costa Rica and know Costa Rica is a country where human rights are really respected. When we talk about human rights, we have to talk about respect for integrity, so basically we have to consider Treatment or punishment and Political rights.

Our constitution prohibits cruel or degrading treatments of human beings. In fact, laws invalid any statement obtained through violence and  prisioners are separated by sex and by level of security (minimum, medium, and maximum) guaranteeing their personal safety.

On the other hand, we have to consider respect for political rights, which means the right of a citizen to change their government on a regular basis, in this case, costarricans have the right to change their government peacefully every four years.

In conclusion, Costa Rica provides laws with mechanisms to respect human rights and they are trully  applied in important cases.
